Disappointment.

I've been so excited about the new models. I liked the new Night Elf females for the most part and I love the female draenei when I saw her in the artcraft post. Then today after the beta wipe I copied Ailuuya. I'm very much feeling Tome and MattyShaman here.
Current Ailuuya

New Beta Model Ailuuya

The worst part is that I hadn't been worrying about this because before the wipe I hadn't copied her but had flipped through the models and saw a face that was very comfortably close to her current one, so I assumed that was it. It's not. Can we talk about those free re-customizations please?
Now I know this isn't finished, so I hope it gets better. Some things are bound to change. I'm sure her legs won't look like jello when she runs in the final version, right? At least her hair looks really nice.

  1. I'm not sure how the technicalities of the models work, but when they set out to add more polygons, I thought most things would look identical to now, just clearer and more fluid.
I'm wondering if the good that they achieve with new models outweighs the bad, and if in the end it proves to be time and money well spent.

    1. I thought that's exactly what we were getting too. High definition equivalents of what we already had, but the more I see them the more I realize that it's not. Right now what it looks like to me with things like the female Night Elves is that they picked a single face to redo and then stuck a few slightly different textures on it, and I don't like that part even if I'm okay with the face itself for some of my characters.
I can't help thinking that with some of the MMOs out there that have absolutely amazing customization it is sad that WoW's characters feel like they'll be becoming a little bit less unique with the revamp rather than more so.

  2. We definitely need free re-customizations because right now I don't like the look of any of my actual characters once beta-ised. I think Blizzard have forgotten how attached people get to their avatars especially up to 10 years down the line.

If I'm being honest, I don't like the Night Elf face at all, it's too harsh and square jawed but bland at the same time.

    1. I haven't been able to see most of my characters yet. They haven't finished either model I play the most. (Male blood elves and night elves.) But after finally getting to look at one of my characters re-done I'm not happy either. I loved Ailuuya's face it was gentle, and beautiful but strong. Now to me it looks weak and pinched. I am very much afraid that I won't recognize any of them when they're done.
For me the Night Elf face was okay for the character I made in Beta that went with that personality and it was one I could accept for my little hunter when I copied her. But I am not positive my little druid will fare so well. I think what it comes down to for me as that I'd like that Night Elf face as an option. But not as the only face they can get.

  3. I'm hoping they really are still working on them. So far only my Night Elf Hunter looks like herself. Different but I can still buy that's it's her.

    1. I really hope so too. I am actually as much scared as excited now about seeing the new male elf models. If this is what we're getting I do hope they'll consider a free re-do for every character so I can at least try to make mine into themselves again.

    2. I think -- it's the narrowing of the face, the 'dead eyes' and lack of any motion in the lips. I wish when they made the Beta faces they took more care at least -- you're right, we are very attached to our Azerothian avatars, and this is Art 101. Think it's time for a post...

    3. All I can do is just keep hoping they'll fix them, and that they don't mess up those they're still working on. I'm anxious about all of them.
